January Climate Summary

After a decent 27.9" of snowfall in December 2013, January was quite disappointing with only 10.3" of snowfall. The low-light of the month was a 15-day dry stretch from the 15th through the 29th. Through January, our seasonal snowfall was 44.3". We will need two snowy months in February and March to have any chance of getting close to the estimated average annual snowfall of 105" here on the Wasatch Bench.

Meanwhile back in the frozen tundra of Grand Forks, ND, another 15.9" of snow was observed, raising their seasonal snowfall to 40.3". That is only 2.5" below their average annual snowfall. A climatologically normal snowfall for February through April will take them way above normal for the season, and likely above the 59.5" I observed there last year. Below is a monthly comparison of temperatures and snowfall for the Wasatch Bench vs Grand Forks. It was appropriate to label snowfall here with a red line, because that is exactly what happened for two weeks.
