I finally found a chance to update my basketball ratings, after about a week and a half since the last update. Rankings below are through games played on Sunday, 1/19. With the #5 offense and the #3 defense in the country, the Arizona Wildcats remain #1 overall.

A couple of oddities I noticed with this update. I had Iowa one spot ahead of Ohio St., now they are two spots below them....after beating them in Columbus. I'm not sure why Ohio St. stayed at #3. Somehow Syracuse dropped three spots to #9, despite remaining undefeated....again, I don't know why. Dropping out of the Top 50 this week were #28 Missouri (52nd), #38 Louisiana Tech (63rd), #42 Wake Forest (56th), #48 Indiana (55th), and #50 Hawai'i (98th...ouch!); they were replaced by Oklahoma, Connecticut, BYU, WI-Green Bay, and Providence.

5 Teams I Expect to Continue Rising:
#21 Virginia.....#27 Kansas.....#28 Michigan.....#30 UMass.....#40 Saint Louis

5 Teams I Expect to Continue Falling:
#17 Iowa State.....#22 Baylor.....#39 North Carolina.....#44 Marquette.....#45 Oregon

Maryland Terrapins Update
Maryland had their best victory of the season last week, a home victory against Notre Dame (currently 65th). Their early season neutral court win over Providence is looking better and better too. The ND win helped the Terps rise to #72 in my rankings. Their defense is surprisingly good considering they refuse to play perimeter defense; I have them 39th in the country. However their offense is a disappointing 87th. I am not expecting Maryland to continue rising towards the Top 50 though. This team has been inconsistent all season, and they can not win on the road. Maryland's only true road win was an 88-80 win at Boston College. I was hoping they would beat NC State in Raleigh, but a poor second half prevented that from happening. Next up is a home game against Pitt.
